Moscow’s authorities, headed by the Mayor Yuri Luzhkov, announced grand plans to provide financial assistance for restoration and repairing works in the temples and monasteries of Moscow and Moscow region, totaling over 100 million rubles.
Today the list of religious structures, which in 2010 will be provided with financial assistance, consist of 15 different organizations, which churches are particularly in need of restoration. According to the mayor's office, for restoration works will be provided more than 103 million rubles, 78 millions of which will be spent this year. Over 11 million allocated by the Moscow authorities will be directed to the repayment of project and engineering works for religious sites, which were initiated by contractors in 2009.
It should be noted that the noble plans of the Moscow administration are not new. So last year were held successful restoration of a number of the oldest churches in Moscow, including the magnificent Temple of Martyr Clement Pope and the Church of Nativity of John the Baptist on Presnya. Also, thanks to the active actions of Moskomnaslediye committee was saved from destruction a unique building of the XVII century in Kolomna.
Under the plan the restoration works the most major reconstructions will be held in Holy Trinity Church in Ostankino, the Holy Virgin Protection Church in the Krasnoye selo and the St. Nicholas of Myra Church of the Three Hills. Major repairs will be carried out also in the Temple of the Iverian Icon of the Mother of God at Vspolye, Church of the Assumption in the Field of Peas, Zachateisk Stauropegial Convent, Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin on Mogiltsy and Historic Mosque.
Also, repair works will be held in a number of other buildings of religious organizations.
