This morning in the Moscow metro during rush hour two suicide bombers blew themselves up killing at least 37 and injuring at least 102 passengers of Sokolniki metro line. Two explosions took place within 40 minutes at the stations of "Lubyanka" and "Park Kultury".
According to the press service of the Moscow metro, explosive devices, ranging from 2 to 4 kilograms of TNT were placed on the bodies of suicide-bombers in the form of so-called "shaheed belt". The first explosion occurred at 7:50 on Moscow time on the "red" Sokolniki line, at the subway station of "Lubyanka" in the second carriage of the anniversary train "Red Arrow", which followed in the direction of Pure Ponds. To maximize the number of casualties, the bomb were packed with bomblets and powered in the rush hour, when arrived train opened the door for boarding. As a result of the first terrorist attack were killed 25 people: 14 of them at the time of the explosion were on the train and 11 people on the station platform.
In connection with the first explosion and panic passenger traffic on Sokolniki line was partially suspended and the train followed only in the interval from South-Western station to Park Kultury. The second blast happened in 40 minutes after the attack at the "Lubyanka" station and was similar to Sokolniki metro line scenario. Suicide bomber detonated an explosive device in a train going from "Park Kultury" station, which killed 12 and injured 62 people, most of whom are in seriously injured.
According to information provided by the Moscow authorities on one of the lines where today there took place terrorist attacks was found three unexploded shaheed belt. According to the SKP RF Vladimir Markin, women suspected of committing a terrorist attack were identified on underground’s CCTV. Their bodies were found at the blast site among the dead.
