Moscow will ban smoking

The Russian capital, famous for not only by the title of the most expensive city in the world, but also one of the most smoking, in the near future is planning an active campaign against smoking, which is designed to reduce tobacco consumption from 40% to 25%.

One of the "first signs" will be the strictest policy regarding smoking in public places, a project that is currently being developed in the Moscow City Duma. The new strategy of the Moscow authorities in respect of capital smokers suggests a significant expansion of the list of public places, where smoking will be banned. It is also planned to introduce a complete ban on smoking from 2015 at restaurants and cafes of Moscow, transport, medical and educational institutions, in the buildings of the public authorities, as well as at the workplaces. Also, it is expected that to this group can be added a popular place for smoking of almost all fans of tobacco - the entrances of apartment houses.

The new policy of the Moscow authorities will not be limited by total ban on smoking. The new company also plans a series of measures to reduce the army of Moscow smokers by banning tobacco advertising not only on radio and television, but also in paper media, as well as on the Internet. According to the Moscow City Duma the law will take effect no later than 2011.

Among other things in the near future tobacco manufacturers will be required to place on cigarettes not only a sign of the dangers of smoking, but also scary, scenic images, describing the horrific effects of smoking on the human body.

But the main news for Russian smokers is a significant increase in the excise during 2011-2013. According to preliminary data, the percentage of indexing of tobacco products will be about 40% per year, which will lead to decrease in cigarette consumption to 10%.
