Snowfall in Moscow: cancellations of flights and freezing rain
During the last few days Moscow is in the center of bad weather. On Saturday 25 December the capital of Russia suffered from freezing rain. Because of heavy snowfalls were canceled at least 10 regular flights from Moscow to St. Petersburg.
Freezing rain in Moscow, which affected the capital on Saturday, has caused power outages in many areas of the city. The main airport in Moscow, Domodedovo, was cut from electricity. Icy crust covered metropolitan highways and runways of the leading airports in Moscow. Problems with departure from Domodedovo and Sheremetyevo experienced leading airlines of Russia: "Transaero", S7 and Aeroflot. Were renewed air expresses “Paveletsky station – Domodedovo”. The final timetable is not yet fully restored. However, expresses depart from the station every half an hour, reports Prime-Tass.
It is expected that air service to Moscow will be fully restored within two days.
Mayor of Moscow, Sergei Sobyanin, has called the current weather conditions "abnormal". According to the estimates of the Moscow weather forecasters, the capital for one day experienced the third of monthly precipitation.
In Moscow itself because of icing on Monday have been canceled several trolleybus and tram routes. According to RIA Novosti, form 9 am December 27 is suspended movement of trolley routes № 11, 67, 71, 74, 50 and 31 in the Kashirsky highway, Lipetskaya and Donetskaya Streets. The movement of tram routes № 3 and 39 in the Chistoprudny and Pokrovsky Blvd is hindered. Here tram lines were damaged by fallen ice-covered trees.
Problems with electricity supply are not only in Moscow, but also its suburbs. As of Monday morning several thousand substations were disconnected from the power supply 20 municipal districts. Overall, as a result of the weather over 100 000 people are without light in Moscow and its suburbs. In restoring the power supply system of Moscow are involved professionals from Tula, Bryansk, Ryazan and Yaroslavl.
